Sandeep Sharma Biography

Sandeep Sharma is an Indian pacer who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket and represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Born on May 18, 1993, in Patiala, Sandeep is renowned for his precision and ability to swing the ball both ways. Over the years, he has emerged as one of India’s most underrated swing bowlers. While he has enjoyed a successful IPL career, he has never quite managed to secure a spot in the national team.

Sandeep first gained attention during the 2012 Under-19 World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in helping India win the title. He claimed four wickets in the final against Australia and finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 wickets. He continued his impressive form in domestic cricket with Punjab, finishing as the leading wicket-taker for the team in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy. He also excelled in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, once again emerging as Punjab’s highest wicket-taker.

Thanks to his stellar performances in domestic cricket, Sandeep was picked by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) ahead of the 2013 IPL. He quickly became one of their key bowlers, especially in the death overs, and took 71 wickets across five seasons with the franchise. In 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him, where he continued to impress, taking 41 wickets over four seasons. After being released by Sunrisers, Sandeep was bought back by Punjab Kings for the 2022 IPL, though he played only five games that season. He went unsold ahead of the 2023 IPL but was brought in by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Prasidh Krishna.

Despite his success in the IPL, Sandeep’s international career has been limited. He was called up to India’s T20 squad for a series against Zimbabwe in 2015 but struggled in both matches and has not received another call-up since.

Sandeep Sharma is happily married to Tasha Sathwick, a jewelry designer and blogger.
